Confirmation & Reception

A Fun Run planning meeting
There will be a meeting to begin planning a parish sponsored 5K Fun Run after the 10:30 am mass Sunday , April 27th. If you like running, walking or just want to help , please bring your ideas to the meeting. If you can't attend the meeting but would like to participate, email Lucy Hellier-Clarke at lehellier@gmail.com or call 206-463-5470, or sign up on the sheet in the social hall.

LADIES OF VASHON - IT’S TEA TIMEInvite your friends and join us for a social gathering on May 16th in the Social Hall from 1 - 3 as the Women’s Group sponsors Tea Time. The event will be a potluck. Please bring either a “sweet” or “savory” to share. Beverages will be provided. We will also offer a Fashion Accessory and Book Swap. Annual Catholic Appeal Through our generosity to the Appeal, 28 seminarians are provided support, over 108,000 individuals who seek help through Catholic Community Services will be cared for, our 11 high schools and 63 elementary schools serving over 22,253 students. BOOK GROUP TO DISCUSS "SO
MEONE"
The Vashon Ecumenical Book Group will discuss "Someone," a novel by Alice McDermott, at its next meeting from 4 to 5:30 pm Sunday, May 3, in the conference room at St. John Vianney Church, 16100 115th Ave. SW. John McCoy, an SJV member, will facilitate the discussion. All are welcome.

McDermott's latest novel is the story of an unremarkable Irish-American woman, her family, and her struggles growing up in the changing world of the mid-20th century. It raises issues of hope, love, and faith.

Monastic Immersion Weekend The monks of New Clairvaux Abbey invite Catholic men ages 18-35 to immerse themselves in the ancient yet living monastic tradition for the weekend of May 15-17. Participants will be able to: Join the monks for prayer in the Abbey Church; Receive conferences on "Monastic Prayer" and "Cistercian Spirituality; View the award-winning film "Of Gods and Men" about the Cistercian martyrs of Algeria followed by panel discussion; Share a meal with the monks; Experience the contemplative atmosphere of the abbey grounds, and more. Called to Protect: Parents & Families A 1.5 hour training for parents, families and all interested in learning how to protect children will be offered here at St John Vianney on May 11, 2015 at 7pm. Training is facilitated by a designated trainer of the Archdiocese of Seattle certified by Praesidium, Inc.  If you would like to attend, please RSVP at stjohnvianneyvashon@gmail.com

Pilgrimage to see Pope FrancisPope Francis is coming to the United States in September! The Archdiocese of Seattle is organizing a pilgrimage to the World Meeting of Families (WMF) in Philadelphia. Held every three years, the World Meeting of Families is the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families. The WMF 2015, “Love is Our Mission,” includes the Congress (Sept. 22-25) and weekend events including a Mass with Pope Francis (Sept. 26-27). The Congress has two tracks:
  • The Adult Congress offers inspiring speakers such as

  • Dr. Scott Hahn
  • Damon Owens 
  • Dr. Gianna Emanuela Molla  (daughter of St. Gianna Beretta Molla)
The Youth Congress (ages 6-17) is an interactive program where young people can build, create, play, listen, serve, and embrace the mission of love that brings families fully alive. Daycare will also be available. As an added bonus, the pilgrimage features a Mass and dinner with Archbishop Sartain in Philadelphia.
