Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday is the coming Wednesday, February 10th. Mass at 10:00am & 7:00pm.

Lenten Soup Sundays
There are sign-up sheets in the vestibule for people to sign up to bring Soup or Bread for the Sundays of Lent (starting next Sunday). The soups/bread will be served after the 10:30 Masses in the Social Hall. Meat soups are fine as they will be served on Sundays, not Fridays.

Fasting (Ash Wednesday & Good Friday) is to be observed by all eighteen years of age and older, who have not yet celebrated their sixtieth birthday. On a fast day one full meal is allowed. Two other meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to each one's needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids, including milk and juices, are allowed.

Abstinence (all Fridays during Lent) is observed by all fourteen years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted.

Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Baptism or of renewal of Baptism at Easter. (Code of Canon Law, 1249-1252)

Kick-off Lent Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, February 7th following the 10:30 Mass. Suggested donation: $5/person, $15/family.

Thank you to all our generous parishioners and to the FF students who encouraged us to help our hungry neighbors. The Food Bank very gratefully accepted our SJV contribution. It was no surprise the Preschool FF class had a tough time bringing forward our parish donations at the 10:30 Mass Offertory--they were carrying 184.2 lbs. of food!
