OCTOBER- Month of the Rosary
O Mary, the Un-doer of Knots,
you never refuse to come to our aid.
With your compassionate eyes see the knots that exist in our lives.
You know very well our desperation and our pain,
and how we are bound by these knots.
O Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of knots, we entrust to you the ribbons of our lives.  There is no knot that cannot be undone.
Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercession take into your hands the knots that we bring before you. (here, name the knot                                     )

O Mary, the Un-doer of Knots, hear our prayer.
Keep us, guide us, protect us, and pray for us now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

Mary, Mother of the Church,
we stand before you
shaken by the scandal and division
in the Church that we love.
We pray for victims of abuse,
whose trust was betrayed
and whose innocence was shattered
by members of the clergy.
We pray for those whose suffering was ignored
and for those who were silenced or disbelieved.
We pray for Church leaders,
that by putting the needs of the vulnerable first,
by acting with transparency,
and by always holding themselves
accountable to God and to the People of God
they may regain the trust that has been broken.
We pray for ourselves,
that the darkness and confusion we feel
may give way to light.
May we find the way to justice, unity, healing, and hope,
through your Son, Jesus, our Lord. Amen.

Mary, refuge of sinners, pray for us.
Mary, comfort of the troubled, pray for us.
Mary, Mother of the Church, pray for us.

The Backpack Pantry
The Backpack Pantry group is offering a great big THANK YOU to all the generous people who make this program possible. Because of you, we are able to offer the program to any child who qualifies for the free or reduced lunch program, or whose family is experiencing a financially difficult time.

Thanks to a generous community, we were able to provide children with approximately 900 weekend bags of food, which contained 2700 meals and some snacks. We are ready to do that and more this year. For that, we owe a great big thank you to the Vashon-Maury community.

If anyone would like to know more, please contact us at 206-463-2142 or email

Pledge Cards can be dropped in the collection basket, returned to the office, or mailed to the Archdiocese.
As Catholics within the Archdiocese of Seattle, we are being asked to make a meaningful and generous donation to the Called to Serve as Christ campaign. The funds raised will be used for the future healthcare and retirement needs of the priests and sisters of the Archdiocese. Pledges can be completed over a three- to five- year period, and 15% of what we donate will be returned to SJV for our parish needs. If you have not received the Archbishop’s letter or your Called to Serve as Christ pledge card, please contact the SJV office, or Dennis and Leslie Carda, who have so generously volunteered to run the campaign for SJV.

At Fr. David’s Rectory Open House on Oct. 21st we will see how the SJV portion of the money we are donating to the Campaign to Serve as Christ will benefit St. John Vianney. Fr. David is looking forward to showing how the rectory will be modernized and weatherized. Cookies and beverages will be served.
