Lenten Activities at St. John Vianney
  • Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for Baptism or of renewal of Baptism at Easter. (Code of Canon Law, 1249-1252)
  • Ash Wednesday, March 6, and Good Friday, April 19, are days of fast and abstinence. Fridays of Lent are also days of abstinence.
  • Abstinence is observed by all fourteen years of age and older. On days of abstinence no meat is allowed. Note that when health or ability to work would be seriously affected, the law does not oblige. When in doubt concerning fast and abstinence, the parish priest should be consulted.

Old Palm Branches
Please Bring Them to SJV
If you have blessed palm branches at home from previous Palm Sundays, you can bring them to SJV and place them in the basket in the vestibule. They will be burned in this year’s Easter fire.

Please join your fellow parishioners for a delicious soup buffet and a short CRS presentation after the 10:30 Mass.
We have soup, but no clean up help for the two remaining Soup Sundays. Kitchen clean up qualifies as a Lenten operum bonum. Sign up in the vestibule to assist John Paul in the kitchen on March 31st and/or April 7th, or even better, just go into the kitchen and ask him where your help is needed.  SJV parishioners who are enjoying these lunches, please make a donation from your family so SJV can cover the costs of these Soup Sundays. Thank you.

Would you like to complete one of Fr. David’s “Practical Ideas for Lent”?
Being trained as a CCS Volunteer Services minister allows you to perform both corporal and spiritual works of mercy.
On April 7, from 1:00-2:30 CCS Volunteer Services will be here at SJV to train volunteers.
A light lunch will be provided. Please consider this very rewarding ministry—helping neighbors in need stay in their homes.

David and Ellen Stewart will lead a training session for new Altar Servers this Sunday from 12:30PM – 2:00PM. Please think seriously about joining this important ministry that will increase your love for the Mass and the Eucharist.

  • Divine Mercy Sunday Lamb Roast and Potluck

You are invited to share your time and talent on a committee that will improve the SJV Prayer Garden with the Stations of the Cross and the Rosary. Last spring the “Raise Your Paddle” at our parish fundraiser raised $7,950 to use for this purpose and this committee will discern how best to spend these generous donations to improve this outdoor space that adds so much to our parish. If you are interested, please sign up on the table in the vestibule.
